from Bello Gallico 160 - first 100 mile experience to Spine North
Bello Gallico 2021
After running a few self-supported trails and being bitten by the Ultramicrobe, I decided to run the ultimate distance in ultrarunning: the 100 miles. I started looking for a coach and that's how I found Erik from Sweet Spot Performance. Impressed by his wealth of experience and achievements, our first meeting was a very pleasant and informative conversation in which we shared some common ground, including the mental aspect of ultrarunning.
Erik has the exceptional gift of creating a coaching program for every personality type, tailored to your family situation and job, without all your time being taken up by training.
As our coaching journey progressed, I could always turn to Erik with endless questions about equipment, nutrition, trails, and other ultrarunning-related topics. His knowledge and experience were the size of an Alpine Col...
"Less is More" is one of his mottos, with the right stimuli at the right time and the necessary rest. Not always easy for Alpha types like me, as I learned firsthand after my Verbier trail. I didn't take the Ultrarest tip seriously after a tough race, kept training, my immune system came under pressure, and I was struck by Covid, which ultimately left me bedridden for three weeks. Erik advised me to take my time recovering.
During my training for the BELLO GALLICO 100 miles, I felt it was a fantastic sequence of intense phases followed by calmer periods, which my body, recovering from Covid, was very grateful for. I was even surprised that you don't need to run 100-mile training weeks to successfully complete this distance.
The result: my first 100 miler was a fantastic, unforgettable experience that I completed successfully.
Thank you Erik
